Artist Statement:
I have experienced multiple mediums in art and will continue to grow and discover, but ceramics has always been my favorite. Clay gives me the challenge of putting my thoughts onto paper and then into a three dimensional structure. Clay has endless possibilities, so what I enjoy most about working with clay is seeing the variety and unique nature of each piece I make and my peers around me make. My ceramics artwork is important to me because it can be both beautiful and functional, therefore; it adds feeling to everyday life.
Because I am still in a high school class I must make the most out of the assignments I am given. By using elements of design I am able to stylize each one of my pieces. Color and texture are the basic tools needed to add style. I enjoy using bright colors and various patterns and textures together to create joyful artwork. I also incorporate subtle hints of cultural designs into my artwork. The Indian culture is one that I value and draw inspiration from for patterns and designs. I hope the viewers of my work can see how much I value my artwork, and can appreciate the feelings it brings them.
I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember, but up until 8th grade I had never experienced the art of photography. Right from the beginning I knew it was something I was good at and enjoyed. What I love most about photography is being able to capture accurate images of what is in our everyday world. looking at a picture is like looking through the photographer’s eyes. I enjoy capturing people’s emotions and expressions in my photography. I want others to notice that my artwork is not like everyone else’s and each piece is unique. Using double exposures in holga cameras is my favorite technique because of the endless possibilities for creativity. Adding interesting lines and textures over the images is my favorite part of double exposures because it gives a new view of the art. I draw inspiration from everyday life and the teachers who guide my work. I hope my viewers will notice the work, effort, and creativity I put into each of my pieces.
